Day 2: heddon-On-the-wall to wall

Day 2, probably the most boring and uninteresting section of our walk, being that there was no wall to see and it is all mainly by the road or on it. We began walking out of Heddon-on-the-Wall, crossing over the A69. After that it was all just fields, one after the other and occasionally we crossed the road to the other side. In some of the fields we walked through there were many, many cows. We then came across a huge puddle in the road which we needed to cross. So one by one (dodging oncoming traffic that caused the puddle to splash out) we managed to cross the puddle. We then came across the Roman fort of Vindobala. We then saw many planes fly over head and lots more fields full of corn and cows and mainly grass. We then came to the village of Harlow Hill where there was an old church and a nice spot to stop for a quick break.

After our break we continued down along the path passed a couple of large reservoirs. In the distance we could see many hills, wondering if our tired legs could go any further. Pressing onwards we reached Robin Hoods Inn where the second passport stamp was located. Just further along we reached Vallum farm where we stopped for a hot drink and a sit down. As we couldn’t eat our own food in the cafe, we walked on a little further until we found a large stone stile, where we could all sit for lunch.

Once we had finished lunch we carried on walking , then all of a sudden the rain came rushing down. We rapidly put on our coats and quickened our pace to take shelter under nearby trees. Lucky the rain calmed down slightly and we were now walking under the trees. We then came across a field with sheep in which for a while walked in front of us, until they moved off the track. We then came to a field with a church at the top of the hill (which lucky we didn’t have to climb) and a huge black cross in the village of Heavenfield. From then onwards it was a long wet walk down into Wall were we passed a field with chickens in. In the pouring rain, and with tired feet and the feeling oI giving up I spot the pick up cars in the distant. That little bit of hope gave me the nerve to get there. Finally in the dry cars we headed back to base camp.
