Day 4: Housesteads to Greenhead
Before we officially re started our walk, we had to walk up the long hill to the Hadrian Wall Walk Path. However we were rewarded as, the first part of your journey, we could walk along the wall. After the stretch of wall we could walk along, we walked through many fields and passed through a arch half broken.
The weather then became darker and wetter, however a rainbow appeared which lightened up my spirts. Then finally the sun came out and we could see the most fantastic view, of the path to come and a huge lake.
We then walked downhill and then uphill for quiet sometime until we came closer to the large lake which was once in the distance. It was such a incredible view we decided to take a family photo. We then carried on walking through the trees. Once we came out of the trees we saw a bird hoovering spectacularly in the air. We then came across a very famous tree. Sycamore Gap. This tree was used in the filming of Robin Hood Prince of Thieves.
The tree was in a big ditch so we had a steep climb up the hill the other side. Just after the steep climb there was another ruins of a Roman fort . Along our route we saw many acorns (as that was the symbol the signified the Hadrian’s wall walk path), however we passed on acorn sign that was painted in a stone in the ground which was different to all the common ones we saw on sign posts.
We then came across another cairn which again my brother could not resit standing on top of. We were then growing quiet hungry so someone picked a spot on the map where there was picnic table and we agreed we would get there for lunch. In the distance we could see a steep hill, luckily we didn’t need to climb it because we went around it to the picnic area. There we sat and admired the views of the water filled quarry.
After lunch we continued over stiles and through fields. One field we went through had cows in the neighbouring fields but luckily the cows and us were separate by a wall. We then came to a village where we took an quick break before the last stretch.
Luckily the last stretch was downhill and straight to the bunk house, meaning that we could straight away get a cup of tea and put our feet up and didn’t need to have a long car trip back. So with that in mind my brother and I ran down the hill straight into the bunkhouse. We then got a cuppa on a waited for the rest of the group to arrived.
That’s day 4 completed and we then had Day 5 to relax as we had set aside day 5 as our rest day.
